The Dutch lost their settlement at Breuckelen to the British in 1664 and they promptly reorganized the area into the Province of New York with 12 counties. Brooklyn has a number of well-defined neighborhoods that you can visit with your Van Rentals. Some of these neighborhoods date back to Dutch settlement in towns and villages. Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, and Red Hook are characterized by the brick townhouses and brownstones that line the streets. Williamsburg and Greenpoint are more artistic centres of the city.

The Brooklyn Lyceum, also know as Public Bath #7, is a place where you can experience a piece of Brooklyn's history. Coming to see the Only the Dead series with your Van Rentals will provide an interesting history of Brooklyn. Taking place in the Green-Wood Cemetery, the tales of the dead will come alive with inspiration. The Brooklyn Lyceum is there to challenge your intellect and imagination through its plays in one of the area's historic buildings. Show times are Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $40 at the door, $30 online, and $15 for students and seniors.

Fight the good fight

Grand Army Plaza is part of Prospect Park in New York City. Grand Army Plaza is the Arc de Triomphe of New York City parks. This triumphant entrance is a memorial to the defenders of the Union who fought in the Civil War to keep the United States together as a strong nation. The Plaza is also the site of the second-largest open air Green Market in the city and easy to get to with your Van Rentals. You can enjoy the fresh taste of the fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and dairy products as you explore the grounds. On Saturdays, the market is open 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. year-round at Grand Army Plaza and the Bartel-Pritchard Circle is open Wednesdays from April through November 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
